IHHT stands for Intermittent Hypoxic Hyperoxic Training.  IHHT is a relatively new technology derived from EWOT.(Exercise With Oxygen Therapy).  Here in Athens, GA we breathe 20.9% oxygen in the air.  IHHT reduces that oxygen  gently to between 15% and 9% to create a demand for oxygen. Once that demand is reached we introduce enriched levels of oxygen between 65% and 80%.  This demand state puts speed behind the oxygen and pushes it deeper into tissues, nerve endings and the brain and at the same time opens up and dilates the vascular system while eliminating the weaker red blood cells and replacing them with newer stronger ones. We do 3-4 cycles of this low to high oxygen process over about 20 minutes. Along with the obvious oxygen benefits that numerous studies now show are vital for healthy aging, the hypoxic low oxygen benefits are just as advantageous. More recent studies show the positive adaptive changes that the body makes in this positive stress environment are impactful for combating the aging process we all face.

WHAT IS IHHT?

Mechanisms of Action

Mitochondrial Function:

IHHT works by inducing mild stress on the respiratory system, prompting the body to eliminate damaged mitochondria and increase the production of new, healthy ones, leading to improved cellular energy (ATP) production.

Oxygen Utilization:

The alternating oxygen levels enhance the capacity for oxygen uptake and transportation, leading to more efficient oxygen utilization throughout the body

Reduced Oxidative Stress:

By activating cellular antioxidant mechanisms, IHHT helps reduce cell damage from oxidative stress.

Reduced Inflammation:

IHHT can contribute to a reduction in systemic inflammation and may regulate inflammatory processes in the airways.
