Performance & Recovery

Enhancing your performance and recovery by training you in a low oxygen environment followed by enriched oxygen to really move the performance and recovery needle.

BRING THE MOUNTAIN TO YOU!

It’s been well documented that training at high altitudes can enhance one’s performance by helping the body create additional red blood cells.  More red blood cells give the body additional oxygen carrying capacity which equals extra fuel for working muscles.

The preparation for and the studies of the results following the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City really brought to light the advantages of altitude training. Mexico CIty’s altitude is 7,350 ft (2,240m)  It has been a mainstay for many elite athletes since.

You don’t have to be an elite athlete or even travel to high altitudes to engage in altitude training these days. The mountain can be brought to you!  Altitude training takes motivation and is not easy.  One usually has to have a specific reason they are training in this way. Preparing for a high altitude destination, a specific athletic event or to just separate yourself from your competition are the usual reasons to engage in altitude training. There is a reason that IHHT is used in professional sports and with select olympians around the world. If you’re planning on taking a trip to Everest base camp, taking a family ski trip or you’re wanting to take your game to the next level let us help you get there!

WHAT IS INTERMITTENT HYPOXIC HYPEROXIC TRAINING?

Intermittent Hypoxic-Hyperoxic Oxygen Therapy (IHHT) is a form of treatment that alternates between periods of low oxygen (hypoxia) and high oxygen (hyperoxia) exposure. This therapy is used to stimulate the body’s adaptive responses and has been associated with a variety of health benefits. Here are some of the key benefits:

1.  Improved Cellular Function and Mitochondrial

  • IHHT has been shown to enhance mitochondrial function, leading to better energy production and overall cellular health. Mitochondria are responsible for generating energy in cells, and improved function can help in reducing fatigue and increasing vitality.

2. Enhanced Physical Performance

  • The therapy is popular among athletes as it can improve endurance, oxygen utilization, and overall physical performance. The body’s adaptation to hypoxic conditions enhances the efficiency of oxygen use during physical exertion.

3. Cardiovascular Health

  • IHHT can positively impact cardiovascular health by improving blood circulation, reducing blood pressure, and enhancing the flexibility of blood vessels. These effects can reduce the risk of heart disease.

4. Immune System Support

  • Alternating between hypoxia and hyperoxia can stimulate the immune system, making it more resilient to infections and diseases. The therapy has been noted to enhance the body’s defense mechanisms.

5. Stress Reduction and Improved Mental Health

  • IHHT has been associated with reducing stress levels and improving mental health by promoting the release of endorphins and other neurotransmitters that enhance mood and reduce anxiety.

6. Anti-Aging Effects

  • The therapy may slow down the aging process by reducing oxidative stress, improving skin health, and enhancing overall cellular repair mechanisms. This could contribute to a more youthful appearance and better health in older adults.

7. Weight Management

  • By improving metabolism and enhancing fat oxidation, IHHT can aid in weight loss and management. The therapy boosts the body’s ability to burn fat, especially during physical activity.

8. Neuroprotection and Cognitive Function

  • IHHT has potential benefits for brain health by improving cognitive function, memory, and neuroprotection. It may help in preventing or mitigating neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

9. Detoxification

  • The therapy can aid in detoxifying the body by improving lymphatic circulation and enhancing the removal of toxins from the cells.

10. Support for Chronic Conditions

  • IHHT has been explored as a complementary therapy for various chronic conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It can help in managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

11. Enhanced Recovery

  • For individuals recovering from surgery or intense physical activity, IHHT can speed up the recovery process by improving tissue oxygenation and reducing inflammation.

While IHHT offers a wide range of potential benefits, it’s important to note that it should be administered under professional supervision, especially for individuals with pre-existing health conditions. The therapy may not be suitable for everyone, and its effects can vary based on individual health status and the specific protocol used.

In approx. 10-20 minutes IHHT can aid in reducing inflammation, expanding endurance, and accelerate injury healing.

 Anti-Aging and Maximizing Wellness

As we age our energy reserve starts to decrease.  What do we mean by energy reserve?  When you are 25 and you get ill or take a hard fall you will likely recover pretty quickly due to your deep energy reserve.  You have a lot left in the tank.  When you get ill or take a hard fall at 80 you might not ever fully recover if your energy reserve is low as it is with many aging adults.

The depth of your energy reserve will usually correlate with how deep you can breath and how much longer you will live.  Breathing deep is being able to fill your upper and lower lungs as well as your diaphragm. Many of us take deep breaths, but only use the upper(smaller)part of our lungs. If you are a deep healthy breather then you are likely a pretty healthy person with a good energy reserve.  If one has persistent shortness of breath or finds themselves breathing shallowly that is a sign of a low energy reserve and more than likely a chronic underlying condition. One’s who find themselves in this place will obviously need to seek help with lifestyle changes and effective modalities.

Intermittent Hypoxic Hyperoxic Training (IHHT) is one of those modalities that can be a game changer for those who find themselves with low energy reserves and breathing issues or those who are aging and healthy, looking to engage in preventative wellness and anti-aging activities.

IHHT offers a promising approach to enhancing brain health and neuro improvement by improving cognitive function, protecting against neurodegeneration, and promoting mental well-being. However, it’s essential to approach IHHT under professional guidance, particularly for individuals with existing neurological conditions, to ensure its safe and effective use.

IHHT gives the blood horse power and makes it move improving circulation, decreasing inflammation, accelerating healing and recovery and in time taking your intracellular oxygen levels back to when you were younger.  You’ll just feel good!

Breathing

There are certainly varying versions of the “right” or better way to eat, drink, sleep, and exercise, in the same manner there is also a right or better way to breathe.

You’ve got questions.

We’ve got answers.

Who are O2 P & R’s clients/customers?

We have quite a range on the spectrum from professional athletes to seniors. The middle-age professional looking to maximize their health and brain function is our #1 client.  Our next would be those suffering from loss of brain function from concussion to PTSD to anxiety/depression to early onset dementia.  We also work with high level to recreational athletes looking to speed up recovery and engage in altitude training to boost performance. The last two years have also brought us many who are dealing with Long COVID symptoms and vaccine injured.

Is there any such thing as getting too much Oxygen?

Yes there are circumstances where one can get too much oxygen.  Oxygen toxicity can occur when one breathes too much high concentrated oxygen under pressure for too long without releasing enough CO2.  IHHT as well as the breathing practices we engage in does not even come close to leading to oxygen toxicity. Getting the heart rate elevated while doing IHHT leads to a healthy release of CO2 which negates oxygen toxicity.  IHHT on the high oxygen setting is 80-85% oxygen.

Can someone who is not able to do traditional exercise still be able to get the benefits from IHHT?

Yes. We work with some seniors who cannot exercise on a bike or treadmill, but are still able to increase their heart rate with breathing techniques and upper body exercises.

Is IHHT the same as EWOT?

The answer is yes and no. Exercise with Oxygen Therapy (EWOT) is the technology that IHHT is derived from.  EWOT is breathing high oxygen while exercising which Manfred von Arden proved has tremendous benefits for many age related chronic conditions in numerous studies in his book Oxygen MultiStep Therapy. (1987)  IHHT goes a step further in that it accelerates the EWOT process by creating an oxygen demand on low depleted oxygen and then supplies the demand on high enriched oxygen  This allows oxygen to dissolve into the blood plasma to get deeper to the cellular level faster with more push power.

How does IHHT compare to Hyperbaric Oxygen?

They are very different oxygen delivery systems. Hyperbaric oxygen has been shown to have tremendous benefits for many health conditions.  IHHT delivers the same amount of oxygen in 15-20 minutes that Hyperbaric delivers in 90 minutes at 1.8 atm. (atmospheric pressure) Hyperbaric pressurizes oxygen into the body.  IHHT creates an oxygen demand and then floods the body with enriched oxygen. The body then takes in the oxygen that is needed to meet the demand.

Our Approach

IHHT is one of those therapies that can be a game changer for those who find themselves with low energy reserves and breathing issues or those who are aging and healthy, looking to engage in preventative wellness and anti-aging activities.

IHHT is a workout to improve and strengthen your respiratory system.  IHHT’s switching from depleted to enriched oxygen creates a slingshot effect that dissolves oxygen into the blood plasma via the hemoglobin to get to the cellular level driving oxygen deep into the tissues and up into the brain. This in essence gives the blood horse power and makes it move improving circulation, decreasing inflammation, accelerating healing and recovery and in time taking your intracellular oxygen levels back to when you were younger.  You’ll just feel good!

Testimonials

“David is an excellent oxygen delivery and breathing coach. He taught and trained my husband and me on various techniques to get maximum oxygen delivery throughout the body using breathing techniques and IHHT.

I’m not sure what I would’ve done if we hadn’t found David to give me oxygen treatments after I fell. I had fallen and landed on my left upper ribs. Unknown to me, those ribs had been misplaced and I was breathing shallow. I was not able to take a deep breath. As I result, I was in a state of lactic acidosis. My organs and muscles were oxygen-deprived. After a visceral manipulation therapist had released the ribs, David was able to help me get oxygen to my organs and muscles. The muscle cramping stopped and my energy level improved.

My husband was able to benefit from the breathing techniques with IHHT as well. His oxygen saturation levels have also improved. Because we were moving away from David for the NFL season, so we bought our own system. Now we wouldn’t be without it.”
